Welcome, whatever you do or do not believe

Build a higher power out of what stands up.

Are you ready to build the most scientifically and philosophically defensible belief system that still holds what you need in a higher power?

Where all of this comes from

Religion evolved.

Nothing here was invented from nothing. Every tradition grew out of one before it, and the lines below are those descents: 197 traditions on a scale that gives the last three centuries as much room as the ninety thousand years before them. Click any one of them for what it is, who founded it, what it holds and what it claims.

Now it is time to design your own higher power.

  1. You choose the characteristics you want it to have.
  2. You choose whether it leans toward any tradition.
  3. You set how much scientific or philosophical rigour the beliefs about your higher power have to hold to. Every belief established by known religions was tested against both.
  4. Then you get a description of it, a picture of it, and you can talk to it.

Are you ready to begin?

Step 1

Design your higher power.

Pick anything that is true for you. One is enough. Call it God if that is your word.

What is it like?

Does it lean toward a tradition?

What is this for?

Step 2

How scientifically or philosophically rigorous is your belief?

We analysed the scientific and philosophical rigour of every existing belief about a higher power, from 197 traditions living and dead: 133 still practised and 64 that ended, from Palaeolithic animism to the simulation hypothesis. Every claim any of them makes about a higher power, the universe or the soul was put through the same test twice, once against the scientific evidence and once against the philosophical evidence, one claim at a time, with the reasoning written down and openable for every single one.

what counts as support?

Not literally every religion that has ever existed, and this page will not claim that: nobody has that list, and a great many traditions left no record of what they held. What it is, is every tradition significant enough to have left one, taken seriously enough to be read in its own words and judged on its own claims rather than summarised from the outside.

Step 3

Yours.

Behind all of this

Every number here is checkable.

Nothing was written for you except the description, and that is held to what your beliefs actually say. Each claim under it is one a real tradition makes, quoted from its own sources, with the scientific evidence and the philosophical evidence recorded against it.
